Quantum Internetworking Challenge program

Now open: Quantum Internetworking Challenge program funding call

We’re launching a new call for proposals. The deadline to apply is April 2, 2026. Contact us at NRC.QuantumInternetworking-Interreseautagequantique.CNRC@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca for application instructions or if you have any questions.

Program duration: 2026-2033

A quantum-enabled Canada, where quantum information is transmitted seamlessly over any distance: on-a-chip, within the data centre and across the country.

The ability to network quantum components is a vital step towards scaling up quantum communications, sensing and computing technologies. With globally recognized strengths in photonics, semiconductors and quantum information systems, Canada and the NRC are well positioned to meet this challenge.

Launching in 2026, the Quantum Internetworking Challenge program will connect the NRC's quantum science, technology and metrology experts with industry specialists and academics. This collaboration will advance quantum science and drive the development of quantum networking materials, devices, components and systems towards commercialization.

About the program

By overcoming technological challenges and addressing existing gaps at every length scale, the program will promote the development and deployment of a network of interconnected quantum computers and sensors in Canada, and lay the groundwork for a Canadian quantum internet.

The Quantum Internetworking Challenge program will leverage existing testbed infrastructure in Canada while working alongside industry to develop quantum standards and facilitate end-user adoption.

Areas of focus

  • Applied quantum materials and integration
  • Quantum components and devices
  • Interfaces, transducers and interconnects
  • Systems and demonstrations

Collaborate with us

This program will bring together researchers from across the NRC to work on collaborative R&D projects with partners from academic institutions, industry and other government agencies to develop technologies for prototyping and demonstration.

There will be ongoing opportunities for collaborators to get involved. For more information, send an email to the Quantum Internetworking team at NRC.QuantumInternetworking-Interreseautagequantique.CNRC@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca.

The NRC's National Program Office offers grant and contribution funding for eligible collaborators with complementary expertise. Learn more about the NRC's funded collaborative R&D programs and initiatives.
