Welcome to the NRC's Cell culture pilot plant in Montréal, Canada.

This is where we help our collaborators scale up CHO and HEK293 cell culture processes to produce recombinant proteins, virus-like particles, viral vectors, and more.

The cells that make up these living factories need media and feed to grow. We can develop custom media and feeds for your process.

We can scale-up your process from lab-scale (2 litre and 5 litre) to pilot-scale (60 litre) bioreactors, all the way up to the star of our operation: a 500 litre stainless steel bioreactor. We also have a 200 litre single use bioreactor in a second suite.

After we produce, we purify. We can handle up to 500 litres of broth per day.

Our purification experts then use columns to purify your target product.

When process development is complete, we provide documentation, training, and smooth transfer to contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs).

Please note: In the 1970s, Dr. Frank Graham developed the HEK293 cell line, which is now widely used for academic research and in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries around the world. The NRC has developed proprietary versions of the HEK293 cell line, referred to as HEK293SF-3F6 and HEK293-6E.
