The CSA Standard Test Method for the Dynamic Wind Uplift Resistance of Membrane-Roofing Systems (CSA A123.21) provides test requirements for evaluating wind uplift resistance. For wind loads, the National Building Code of Canada 2020 requires roof assemblies to be designed in accordance with the CSA A123.21 standard. First published in 2004, CSA A123.21 was revised in 2010, 2014 and 2020 (current edition). The R&D for the standard is done by the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and the Special Interest Group for Dynamic Evaluation of Roofing Systems (SIGDERS), an industry-based consortium.
At a January 2020 meeting, SIGDERS members explored the use of a common directory platform for systems that are in accordance with the CSA A123.21 standard. Several options were presented and discussed, and a task group was then created to explore them. The task force members selected the new Directory Data Sheet, one of the NRC’s group of wind-roof calculator applications. This Directory Data Sheet tool, developed and maintained by the NRC, also includes the terms of reference for the application.
