Dr. Sue Twine is currently the director general of the Human Health Therapeutics Research Centre. Dr. Twine holds a BSc and PhD in biochemistry from the University of Southampton (Southampton, UK) and an MBA from Heriot Watt University (Edinburgh, UK). Her research career began with the biochemical characterization of protein ligand interactions.
Upon joining the NRC, Dr. Twine refocussed her research toward the application of proteomics and mass spectrometry to improve our understanding of host pathogen interactions. Most recently, Dr. Twine has led a diverse portfolio of projects and programs, underpinned by the application of mass spectrometry technologies to improve the translation of disease understanding to tangible therapeutic applications.
Throughout her career, she has been passionate about mentoring students and early-career researchers. Dr. Twine is currently adjunct professor at Carleton University, and actively supports student learning through events such as the NRC–Carleton Biotech Bootcamp. She has co-authored more than 60 research publications and served as co-editor for several books.
