Roles and responsibilities
The NRC’s Arctic and Northern Challenge Program is a seven-year research program that aims to address pressing issues impacting the quality of life of Northern peoples through technology and innovation. As Director of this program, I work to foster a collaborative research environment, supporting the development of strategic directions for NRC’s Arctic and northern research in the areas of housing, health, food and water to achieve desired outcomes, both for the research as well as for new and existing research partnerships.
As NRC's representative to the Government of Canada's Interdepartmental Indigenous-STEM (I-STEM) cluster, I strive to maximize the benefits NRC receives as a member of the cluster, and to mobilize NRC's inputs into the products, policies and knowledge that the cluster is developing.
Current research and/or projects
Working with Indigenous partners to examine Inuit and First Nations clothing ensembles, to inform Government of Canada operational uniforms and personal protective equipment (PPE) for use in harsh environments.
Strategic development of collaborative research partnerships.
Research and/or project statements
In my position as a research officer, I participated in and led projects involving numerical simulations, field work, physical modelling and analytical studies of ice cover behaviour and ice-structure interaction. I have delivered strategic research and technical service projects for Industrial and Government clients in order to support their operations and mandates. Example projects include physical modelling studies of ice loads against offshore wind turbine towers, evaluating the risk of damage to overwintering fuel barges due to ice conditions, feasibility studies for emergency evacuation over ice in the Beaufort Sea and numerical modelling studies of ice loads and ice pile-up on offshore oil and gas platforms and port structures.
