[Exigences d'évaluation du CCMC] CAN/ULC-S702.1:2014, modification 1, type 1

Le présent document résume les exigences minimales imposées par le Centre canadien de matériaux de construction (CCMC) pour toutes les évaluations fondées sur le document ci-après énonçant les critères. Pour certaines évaluations, et au besoin, des exigences supplémentaires pourraient être imposées par le CCMC, ces dernières étant détaillées dans l’évaluation en question.

Portée

This Standard applies to mineral fibre thermal insulation manufactured in the form of faced and unfaced batts, rolls and boards. Where facings are used, they shall be either permeable or vapour retarding membranes. This standard does not permit the application of kraft paper facings on batts and rolls. It also applies to loose fill mineral fibre thermal insulation when used in unconfined spaces with slopes not exceeding 4.5:12.

This Standard specifies performance requirements and test methods for the products used under normal climatic conditions to thermally insulate attics, floors, ceilings and walls (above and below ground grade) in light frame construction buildings and manufactured housing.

Type 1 mineral fibre thermal insulation is preformed insulation (in the form of batts, rolls or boards) without a membrane.

Surface burning characteristics For Type 1 products not intended for exterior of basement walls: Flame-spread classification must not exceed 25; smoke-developed classification must not exceed 50.
Smoulder resistance Applicable only to Type 1 products, not intended for exterior of basement walls. Mean mass loss ≤ 2% and each specimen ≤ 3%. Smoulder zone shall not reach specimen periphery.
Breaking load of exterior frame wall sheathing Not applicable to batts or rolls. Applicable only to Type 2 boards for exterior frame wall sheathing. ≥ 2.7 kg
Compressive resistance of draining insulation Not applicable to batts or rolls. Applicable to draining insulation only. Compressive resistance for a 38 mm or thicker draining insulation must be at least 7 kPa at 10% deformation and for thinner than 38 mm it must be at least 10 kPa at 25% deformation.
Water vapour permeance Not applicable Applicable to adhered membrane/ insulation or to non-adhered membranes.
Corrosiveness Applicable to Type 1 batts and rolls. Corrosion ≤ control.
Fungi resistance Applicable to Type 1 batts and rolls. Growth ≤ comparative item.

Pour toutes les évaluations reposant sur ce critère, le CCMC exige des titulaires d'évaluation qu'ils s'assurent que les étiquettes des produits :

Each package shall be suitably labeled or marked to show the following information:

  • Brand name and the name of the manufacturer or supplier;
  • Identification of the location of the manufacturing facility (a code is acceptable for the location);
  • Type of insulation and its intended use;
  • Number of pieces per package;
  • Net content of package in m2;
  • Design linear dimensions (i.e. length and width) of the pieces in the package in mm;
  • Design thickness in mm;
  • Thermal resistance in (m2·K)/W to one decimal place;
  • Date of manufacture or shift code;
  • Statement that the product complies with this Standard;
  • For preformed insulation without a membrane (Type 1 material), except for draining insulation, a cautionary statement:
    • CAUTION: Building, electrical, fire and other applicable codes shall be complied with. All heat emitting devices, such as fuel burning appliances, chimneys, pipes, ducts and vents to these appliances shall maintain a minimum clearance of 50 mm between these devices and the insulation. Recessed light fixtures, unless designed for the purpose, shall not be installed in insulated ceilings.
    • ATTENTION : Se conformer aux réglementations en matière de bâtiment, d’électricité, d’incendie et autres réglementations applicables. Tous les appareils dégageant de la chaleur, tels que les appareils à combustible, les cheminées, les tuyaux, les conduits et les tuyaux d’évacuation, doivent se trouver à une distance minimum de 50 mm de l’isolant. Les appareils d’éclairage encastrés non prévus à cet effet ne doivent pas être installés dans des plafonds isolés.
  • If the product is intended for application at thicknesses other than the design thickness, the thermal resistance and application for each intended secondary application shall be shown in similar print at a character height of at least one half that of the design characters (with a minimum of 15 mm). The associated thickness of the secondary application shall also be shown. This secondary application, thermal resistance and thickness information shall be located on the same sides, excluding the ends, of the package, as the design thermal resistance, application and thickness designations; and
  • Any necessary user safety information, unless a separate information sheet is provided.

Note: Depending upon the jurisdiction, additional marking may be required by applicable acts and regulations
