New support for Canadian SMEs to develop and advance clean technologies through to commercialization
Clean technology provides environmental benefits for Canada and improves our economic prosperity. Small and medium-sized businesses in Canada that are working on clean technology — whether they are developing it, testing it, or bringing it to market — are now eligible for support from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP).
SMEs must meet the following criteria:
- For-profit business incorporated in Canada
- Maximum of 500 full-time employees working in Canada
- Paid full-time employees, other than the founders, that include both technical and business employees
- Seeking business growth through development and demonstration of innovative and technology-driven products, services or processes
- Developing new clean technologies for commercialization
- Have a plan for providing environmental benefits, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving air, soil, or water quality
SMEs must demonstrate:
- An innovative technology with a validated proof of concept
- Measurable and quantifiable environmental impacts for their technological innovation
- A path to commercialization for their innovation, which may include working with other organizations even though a formal partnership is not required
SMEs must meet all stated requirements to be eligible for consideration. While meeting these criteria is important, it does not guarantee funding.
