The National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) Clean Technology program provides advice, connections and funding to Canadian small and medium-sized businesses that are developing, demonstrating and commercializing new and innovative clean technologies. The program helps foster collaborations and accelerate technology advancements that have the potential to provide greater environmental benefits for Canada and improve our economic prosperity.

How NRC IRAP helps

NRC IRAP provides support to Canadian clean technology businesses:

  • Trusted advisors who offer technical and business advice, referrals and other guidance
  • Canadian cleantech innovation ecosystem partners
  • Funding to advance promising clean technologies towards commercialization:
    • Start-up funding for technologies that have been proven at a small scale
    • Scale-up funding for advanced, high-growth companies

Who is eligible?

To be considered for the NRC IRAP Clean Technology program, businesses must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a for-profit small or medium-sized business incorporated in Canada
  • Have fewer than 500 full-time employees working in Canada
  • Be developing new and innovative clean technologies for commercialization.

To be considered for financial support for their project from the NRC IRAP Clean Technology program, businesses must demonstrate the following:

  • The proposed innovation will deliver quantifiable and scalable environmental benefits
  • The proposed innovation has strong potential for commercial adoption
  • The business has identified and engaged with a commercialization partner for the proposed innovation
