Canada–Germany Eureka co-chair

Eureka Canada | Germany, Chair 2024-2025

Message from our president

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) is honoured to serve as the 2024–2025 Eureka co-chair, representing Canada along with our partner co-chair Germany. This is the first time in Eureka's almost 40-year history that there have been co-chairs, and we are excited to be the first non-European co-chair. The NRC has a valued and long-standing relationship with Germany—a key partner for Canada and the NRC—and we look forward to working together with Germany's Federal Ministry of Education and Research to inform the strategic direction for Eureka.

Supporting international collaboration and efforts to enhance cooperation among countries leads to better research and innovation results, as well as a more robust pathway to sustainable, resilient commercialization. Eureka helps thousands of innovators work with international partners, providing them with access to the expertise, knowledge and resources they need to grow and reach new markets.

Throughout the coming year, we look forward to welcoming innovation agencies from the Eureka network to Canada, giving them the opportunity to experience our vibrant innovation ecosystem of growing companies and world-class research institutions.

As our co-chair slogan for this year says, we go "further together." We know that, when we collaborate, we can aim higher and achieve our goals faster and with greater impact.

Mitch Davies, President, National Research Council of Canada

NRC President, Mitch Davies

Further together

The NRC and Germany's Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) will co-chair the Eureka network from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025. For the first time since Eureka was founded in 1985, two countries will jointly lead the world's largest network for market-driven technological innovation. Building on its European roots, Eureka has developed into a platform for global cooperation in technology development and application. Having a co-chair offers the opportunity to further intensify the global cooperation between valued partners and to contribute to social and economic competitiveness and security.

Canada's membership in Eureka provides innovators with predictable, easy-to-access co-innovation opportunities. Participating in Eureka network projects has proven to be a driver of growth for Canadian companies, giving them access to expertise and resources they need to grow and reach new markets. Since joining Eureka in 2012, Canada has supported over 300 participants in projects valued at $800 million (Canadian dollars), involving over 600 partners from 35 countries.
