The NRC is leading the way in supporting collaborative R&D to address challenges facing Canadians now and into the future. From studying energy requirements needed to operate future zero-emission sea vessels, to research on alternative sources of protein such as peas and lentils, the NRC's Supercluster support programs are working to advance R&D for Canada's 5 growing innovation ecosystems.
The Superclusters were launched by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada to accelerate the development of highly innovative industries that will energize the economy and position Canadian firms for global leadership in such key areas as advanced manufacturing, digital technology, ocean technology, agri-food, artificial intelligence, infrastructure and transportation.
The NRC's funded collaborative R&D programs are supporting each Supercluster by helping NRC researchers, businesses and universities work together to strengthen capacity in strategic platform technologies and early-stage research. To date, over $17.4 million in grant and contribution funding (G&C) has been provided to 32 organizations to collaborate on 59 projects in support of program objectives. G&C funding is provided through the NRC's National Program Office to collaborators offering complementary expertise, including academic and other research institutions and small and medium-sized enterprises.
