The LiBTec community of interest

Innovation is key to developing a competitive battery value chain in Canada. Launched in 2018 as an industrial R&D group, LiBTec, named after lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) technology, has evolved into a diverse community centred on battery innovation that supports dialogue between government, industry and academia. This initiative helps identify and address critical R&D challenges at all technology readiness levels and across the entire value chain.

Objectives

LiBTec's mission is to promote innovation, facilitate knowledge exchange and support cross-sectoral collaborations within the Canadian battery ecosystem. By raising awareness of Canadian innovations at the national level, LiBTec also aims to help shape strategic directions for battery R&D in Canada to improve its global competitiveness.
Some of our regular activities:

  • Twice-yearly review of technology and business developments in Canada and worldwide
  • Technical webinars by NRC experts and leading academic researchers
  • White papers, briefs, fact sheets and educational materials
  • Virtual and in-person networking events open to members of all sectors

Target audience

Stakeholders of the battery value chain, such as raw materials suppliers, material processors, OEMs, recyclers, government departments involved in battery innovation and cell, module and pack producers

Join the community

LiBTec membership is free. Simply send a request to join the community by email at LiBTec@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca. Invitations, materials and updates are not posted online but distributed through the LiBTec network.
