Bio-based Specialty Chemicals program

""

The volatility of fossil fuel prices and shifting

consumer preferences has given way to a growing market for safer, renewable and more sustainable natural resources. The Bio-based Specialty Chemicals (BSC) program works with Canadian companies to develop technologies and services that produce high-value specialty chemicals from biomass as an alternative to traditional fossil fuel feedstocks.

Strategic research areas include oleochemicals, novel fermentation feedstocks, biopesticides, flavourings and fragrances, industrial enzymes and greener chemical conversion technologies. The BSC program works with industry partners to develop high-quality specialty chemicals for use in a variety of consumer and industrial applications, such as personal care and cosmetics, food and nutritional ingredients, household goods and agricultural products.
