Part of our Metrology Research Centre, the electrical power measurements team carries out high voltage, high current and electrical power calibrations in support of the electrical power industry and measurements to address challenges for manufacturers of electric transportation and the smart electrical grids.
Our expertise
With expertise in high-precision electrical power measurement, the team also conducts research and testing for AC and DC high voltage and high current measurements, as well as on high voltage insulators and dielectrics for the electrical power grid and multimodal electrified transportation.
- AC voltage: Calibrations up to 500 kV
- DC voltage: Calibrations up to 300 kV
- AC and pulsed AC current: Calibrations up to 60 kA
- DC current: Calibrations up to 2 kA
- AC electrical power: Calibrations of electrical power meters and analyzers; with and without harmonics
- Power transformer load loss measurements
- Electrical tracking and erosion evaluation of insulating materials and coatings
- Dielectric tests and measurements
Our latest research
The team is developing Canada's national DC power and energy standard for calibration of energy meters in electric vehicle DC fast charging stations.
The team is also developing test beds and diagnostic tools for partial discharge testing and diagnostic techniques for high voltage insulation for multimodal electrified transportation and grid modernization.
