Powering the future of AI research
The NRC's Beatrix facility is a graphics processing unit (GPU) computing cluster that supports AI-based research and innovation across academia, industry and government.
Whether you're training advanced machine learning models, processing datasets or running high-throughput AI workflows, our infrastructure provides the speed, scale and support you need to accelerate discovery and innovation.
The Beatrix facility is named in honour of Canada's first female computer scientist, Beatrice Helen Worsley, a pioneer in the field who worked at the NRC as a research officer in 1947.
Key features
- 36 GPU-accelerated nodes, each with 4 GPUs, for deep learning workloads
- Infrastructure suitable for AI and machine learning
- High-bandwidth interconnect technology (InfiniBand)
- Scalable computing environment
Our services
We offer a range of services to support AI and data-intensive research and development:
- Access to cost-effective and sovereign compute resources for running complex AI models and simulations
- Mentorship and onboarding for small and medium-sized enterprises to help with integration into the compute cluster
- Hands-on NRC expertise to assist with development and implementation of AI solutions tailored to your industry and business needs
- A collaborative platform connecting NRC with industry, academia and government
As part of the Government of Canada's new Canadian Sovereign AI Compute Strategy, a $25-million investment was announced to expand the Beatrix facility. The expansion will add more compute capacity to Canada's AI ecosystem, supporting the short-term needs of industry, government researchers and academic collaborators.
