Engaging with the NRC: options for intellectual property (IP)

The NRC offers a range of options for managing and licensing intellectual property (IP), depending on your research goals, the nature of the IP, and the funding model for IP development. Our most common IP models are shown below. Talk to us to find an option that works best for your organization.

Research goal Develop know-how (such as standards and test procedures) for the public good. Approach Arising IP broadly published; no patent protection sought. Each party provides a non-exclusive commercial licence to their arising IP to the other party/parties. The NRC grants your organization a commercial licence in your field of use or sells your organization rights in an invention.
