The NRC is the Government of Canada's largest research organization, and offers an array of career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Fostering a passion for science and technology among young women is important to the NRC.
Women have made tremendous progress towards increasing their participation in higher education, yet they are still underrepresented at all levels of STEM disciplines all over the world. Less than 30% of researchers worldwide are women.
Tackling some of the greatest challenges Canadians and the world face from improving health to combatting climate change or inventing the next generation of digital technologies will rely on harnessing all available skills and talents. That means getting more women working in these fields.
At the NRC, we work with amazing women in many STEM disciplines. Having diversity in science and research expands the pool of talented researchers, bringing in fresh perspectives, talent and creativity.
The International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated each year on February 11, promotes full and equal access to, and participation in, science for women and girls. This day is a reminder that women and girls play a critical role in science and technology communities and that their participation should be strengthened.

The study of numbers, quantity and space to recognize patterns, test proofs, and provide insight or predictions about anything.
