Privacy impact assessments (PIAs) are a key element of sound risk management that help government institutions identify impacts that proposed programs and activities will have on an individual's privacy. These assessments help reduce the risk of improper or unauthorized handling of personal information by proactively addressing the impacts to privacy associated with new or substantially modified programs and activities while ensuring compliance with the Privacy Act as well as the Treasury Board Secretariat's privacy policies and directives.
The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) is committed to sharing summary reports of approved PIAs in accordance with the Directive on Privacy Impact Assessment. Copies of full privacy impact assessment reports are available upon request.
