Pierre Mayette recently celebrated 30 years as a public servant. He first started his career as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer before becoming an Aircraft Structural Design Engineer with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He also worked as the lead engineer for a mechanical engineering consulting firm. Since 2004, Pierre works in the National Research Council's Design and Fabrication Services and has held several positions of increasing responsibilities within that branch. He was officially appointed as the Director General in January 2021, after having assumed the role of acting Director General since July 2019. Pierre is considered a leader in design and fabrication specializing in mechanical prototyping projects in research environment such as his current advising role on the Aerospace's Hybrid Electric Aircraft Testbed project. His work allows him to combine engineering, teamwork, and innovation to provide researchers and their partners with custom designed research apparatus and tools. Pierre holds a B. Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from Polytechnique Montréal and is a member of the Professional Engineers Ontario.
