As a dedicated Research Officer, my primary objective is to address complex engineering challenges with streamlined and effective solutions, while consistently proposing innovative concepts and developing cutting-edge methodologies and tools.
Areas of Expertise:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Deep Learning (DL): Proficient in AI-driven technologies and their applications in various fields.
- Computer Vision (CV) and Image Processing: Specialized in visual data analysis and interpretation.
- Electronics and Internet of Things (IoT): Skilled in integrating electronic systems with IoT for enhanced connectivity and functionality.
- Building Information Modelling (BIM), openBIM, and Digital Twins: Expert in leveraging these technologies for construction and infrastructure projects.
- Remote Sensing (RS) Technologies and Spectroscopy Imagery: Experienced in applying RS for environmental and material analysis.
- Certifications: Certified Thermographer and Advanced UAV Pilot.
Current Engagements: I am actively involved with the Advanced Construction Practices and Fire Safety (ACPFS) research group at the Construction Research Centre, contributing to the following teams:
- Fire Safety Science and Technology (FSST): Concentrating on the integration of AI, Computer Vision, and IoT in fire protection systems to enhance safety measures.
- Construction Sector Digitalization and Productivity (CSDP): Focused on the utilization of openBIM and Digital Twins in advancing Construction 4.0 initiatives.
Future Endeavors: I am keen to explore new domains, including:
- The application of AI, Digital Twins, and BIM in fire risk assessment.
- Employing AI, Remote Sensing, and Computer Vision for monitoring and mitigating wildfire risks.
- Utilizing AI, Spectroscopy, Computer Vision, and Remote Sensing for the detection of hazardous materials and prediction of potential incidents.
Current research and/or projects
AFRA-BIM and AFRA-IFC Projects:
These initiatives focus on the application of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in fire safety, specifically for fire risk assessment. By leveraging openBIM concepts, the projects utilize the Industrial Foundation Classes (IFC) standard, ISO19650 standard, and Information Delivery Specifications (IDS) to enhance fire safety protocols and risk management strategies.
VISTA Smart Firefighter:
This project employs advanced Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence technologies for the automatic detection and prediction of fire incidents within the construction sector. The integration of these technologies aims to improve response times and safety measures.
Research and Development in BIM-based Digital Twin:
My work involves exploring and advancing BIM-based Digital Twin technologies within the construction industry. This research is directed towards optimizing construction processes and enhancing project outcomes through digital innovation.
Wildfire Detection and Monitoring:
Focused on the Canadian Wildland Urban Interface (WUI), this project employs Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), Remote Sensing technologies, and cloud-based AI to effectively detect and monitor wildfires. The integration of these technologies aims to provide timely and accurate wildfire assessments.
Thermal Imagery and Anomaly Detection:
This project involves the use of thermal imageries and thermal cameras to detect anomalies across various sectors, including energy, transportation, and construction. The application of these technologies enhances the ability to identify and address potential issues, thereby improving operational efficiency and safety standards.

I am committed to integrating advanced and emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Computer Vision, Remote Sensing, Digital Twins, and Building Information Modelling (BIM), into the operations of the Government of Canada. My objective is to enhance the safety and convenience of Canadians, while also reducing costs, losses, and waste, ultimately contributing to a more resilient and sustainable planet. Currently, my focus is on conducting impactful research and development to advance Canada's standing in digitalization and AI, with a particular emphasis on the construction and fire safety sectors.
