Roles and responsibilities
Dr. Fournier is a Research Officer and part of the Human-Computer Interaction Team under Digital Technologies Research Centre.
Her research areas include education and technology and she has participated in several research projects focused on the application and evaluation of advanced technologies in the training sector, in distance education, and more recently in learner-centered research and development of Personal Learning Environments. She has contributed to the advancement of research in the field of distance education, online learning, adult learning, as well as educational learning analytics in the context of Massive Open Online Courses. She has published widely in peer reviewed journals and at international conferences.
Current research and/or projects
DT research pipeline project: Remote check-in project aimed at developing tools and technologies to help seniors to age in place.
HCI team level pipeline: Remote healthcare practices and remote check-ins to support seniors living in their home as part of aging in place initiatives. Outcomes of the project: Prototype for a mobile video-conferencing application for Android with QR code integration. Potential application of augmented reality applications (through gaming) in home healthcare services. A comprehensive review of the literature was conducted related to HCI, human factors, assistive technologies in areas of health and aging in place (including issues around privacy, security, trust, and cybersecurity). As well, a survey with frontline health professionals related to current home healthcare practices is currently underway.
