Frequently asked questions

For the latest information about code changes and provisions in the National Model Codes or details about the National Model Codes development system, please visit the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes website.

What is a technical change?

Technical changes modify the technical meaning of Code provisions. They are the result of substantial technical review and analysis by the standing committees of the CCBFC and, if approved by the CCBFC, will become part of the next edition of the relevant National Model Code.

What is a proposed change form?

Proposed change forms are the vehicle used by the committees of the CCBFC to indicate the nature of the proposed technical change, the wording proposed, the problem it addresses and how it does so, the cost/benefit and enforcement implications, and which 2015 objectives are being met.

What is the approval/withdrawal process for proposed changes?

This public review addresses proposed changes to the 2015 National Model Construction Codes. Once you have read them, you may submit comments, both negative and positive. All comments will be examined by the responsible technical committees. To view the possible list of outcomes based on comments received, see What happens to the comments?.
