This document, published by the National Research Council of Canada in collaboration with the Régie du bâtiment du Québec, contains both the new edition of Chapter I.1, Energy Efficiency of Buildings, of the Quebec Construction Code and an amended version of the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (NECB) 2020 that highlights the changes adopted by Quebec. The document is a valuable tool for building designers, energy consultants and subcontractors, construction professionals and regulatory officials in Quebec.
Changes incorporated into the 2020 edition maintain the same prescriptive requirements as the previous edition of Chapter I.1. This new edition introduces a requirement for maximum power demand during the winter when the building energy performance compliance path is used. A new formula now considers the maximum power demand when calculating the annual energy needs of a proposed building. This addition enhances consistency with current electricity rates by factoring in winter electric input. Additionally, this edition reduces editorial discrepancies between the NECB and Chapter I.1, and harmonizes the editions of standards referenced in the NECB.
