Ordering and shipping

Prices are quoted in Canadian dollars and subject to change without notice.

Order may be faxed, e-mailed, or submitted via the online order form. An email will be sent to confirm the reception of your order.

Pre-payment may be required for some orders. If pre-payment is required clients will be notified, and confirmation that NRC has received the funds is required before any package will be shipped. NRC accepts payment by cheque, direct deposit (Canada only), wire transfer, and credit card. There is a $20.00 service charge for payment by wire transfer.

Orders which are paid by credit card must be submitted via our Virtual Store. For clients who are required or want to pre-pay for their purchases, the Virtual Store is the fastest way to make an advance payment.

For orders not submitted via the Virtual Store, please note that a $25.00 administration fee will apply. This is in addition to any service charges in the case of a payment by wire transfer.

All orders will be shipped via FedEx, with "Carriage Paid To" (CPT) shipping terms, with the exception of some orders that include products classified as Dangerous Goods in Excepted Quantities when FedEx in unable to deliver and the services of our Freight ForwarderFootnote 1 will be used, or if alternate arrangements have been agreed upon by NRC prior to shipping. An email will be sent to the purchaser with the shipment tracking information for their order. Clients are encouraged to monitor the shipping progress for any delays. NRC takes no responsibility for delayed or lost shipments and there is no insurance on packages. Shipments are packaged carefully so that the integrity of the products is maintained. If shipment is not received within a reasonable time, please contact the courier service. Customs, duty charges, and custom broker fees are the responsibility of the customer. Check quarantine restrictions in your country to ensure smooth transfer of CRMs from Canada to the destination.

Product documentation including the Certificate of Analysis, MSDS sheet, and invoice/receipt will be provided to clients inside the shipping box, or emailed in PDF format ahead of shipment if possible.

Store CRMs at recommended temperature as stated in the relevant certificate of analysis.

SARS-CoV-2 Spike Glycoprotein Reference Material

SMT1‑1 is a reference material (RM) designed for the development of SARS‑CoV‑2 spike glycoprotein detection methods, as well as an antigen source for use in SARS‑CoV‑2 immunological assays. The majority of available SARS-CoV-2 test kits and vaccines exploit the interaction between the SARS‑CoV‑2 spike glycoprotein and human anti-spike antibodies. Reference values for the molar concentration, mass fraction, and mass concentration of SARS‑CoV‑2 spike protein in SMT1‑1 have been established, as listed in Table 1. Values are provided for the known spike protein sequence region that ignores the glycan, and also the full spike glycoprotein where the mass fraction and mass concentration values include an estimate of the molar mass of the glycan. Information values for the size heterogeneity of SARS‑CoV‑2 spike glycoprotein in SMT1‑1 are provided in Table 2. A unit of SMT1‑1 contains 1.2 mL of SARS‑CoV‑2 spike glycoprotein in Dulbecco's phosphate-buffered saline (DPBS) with 10 mM HEPES sodium salt.

The reference values for SMT1‑1 are based on combined results from two orthogonal methods from data generated at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). Following acid hydrolysis of the protein, amino acid analysis (AAA) by double isotope dilution liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC‑ID‑MS/MS) was employed for value assignment of SARS‑CoV‑2 spike glycoprotein in SMT1‑1. In addition, ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry (UV‑Vis) based on tryptophan and tyrosine absorbance at 280 nm was also performed. The expanded uncertainty (U) for all values is equal to kuc, where uc is the combined standard uncertainty calculated according to the JCGM Guide [1] and k is the coverage factor of two (k = 2, 95 % confidence interval).

The information values for SMT1‑1 are based on data generated at the NRC. The biologically-active state of SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein is trimeric, consisting of three identical monomeric subunits. Size-exclusion liquid chromatography with UV-Vis detection (LC-SEC-UV) was utilized to determine the size heterogeneity of the SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein in SMT1‑1. The information values in Table 2 can be applied to all of the reference values listed in Table 1.

Intended use

Distributed in 1.2 mL units, this reference material is primarily intended for use in development and validation of SARS‑CoV‑2 immunological tests.

Storage

It is recommended that the material be stored in a controlled cold temperature environment such as a freezer at approximately ‒80 °C. Short term storage at ‒20 °C may be acceptable however stability of the material under such conditions has not been rigorously assessed.

Uncertainty

Included in the combined uncertainty estimate (uc) are uncertainties in the batch characterization (uchar), uncertainties related to possible between-unit variation (uhom), and uncertainties related to stability (ustability). Expressed as standard uncertainties, these components are listed in Table 3.
