[CCMC evaluation requirements] CSA-S347-14
From: National Research Council Canada
This document provides a summary of the minimum requirements imposed by the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC) for all evaluations based on the below criteria document. Additional requirements may be imposed by the CCMC when necessary for a particular evaluation, and are detailed in the individual evaluation.

Title | Method of Test for Evaluation of Truss Plates Used in Lumber Joints |
Document | Standard |
Publisher | CSA Group |
Scope
The design values for the metal truss connector plates are based on test results obtained in accordance with CSA S347-14, “Method of Test for Evaluation of Truss Plates used in Lumber Joints.”
Material requirements
The evaluation holder must demonstrate that the product meets the following requirements (additional requirements may be imposed by the CCMC when necessary, and are detailed in the individual evaluation):
CSA S347 requires testing on the following properties:
- lateral resistance of teeth (Cl. 7.4.2);
- tensile strength of plate (Cl. 7.4.3);
- shear strength of plate (Cl. 7.4.4);
- ultimate tensile strength of plate material (Cl. 7.4.5);
- roller press lateral resistance (Cl. 7.5); and
- moisture response for truss plate joints in structural composite lumber (Cl. 7.6).
Clause 12.8.1.2 of CSA O86-14 does not apply to truss plates in situations where corrosive conditions exist, or in lumber that has been treated with a fire retardant and that is used in wet service conditions or in locations prone to condensation.
Truss plates must be manufactured from galvanized sheet steel and should be of G90 coating class meeting Clause 12.8 of CSA O86-14.

Installation requirements
The CCMC requires that evaluation holders provide instructions for the installation of the product(s) that:
- do not contravene the National Building Code of Canada, or any provincial or territorial building codes; and
- meet the requirements of CCMC minimum documentation requirements.
Manufacturing requirements
The CCMC requires that evaluation holders, at a minimum, demonstrate that the associated production process:
- is operated under a documented quality system; and
- meets the minimum requirements of the CCMC minimum documentation requirements.
Labelling requirements
The CCMC requires that evaluation holders ensure that product labels:
- reference the associated CCMC number or mark; and
- meet the requirements of CCMC minimum documentation requirements.
