[CCMC evaluation requirements] CSA O437.0-93, Grade O2
From: National Research Council Canada
This document provides a summary of the minimum requirements imposed by the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC) for all evaluations based on the below criteria document. Additional requirements may be imposed by the CCMC when necessary for a particular evaluation, and are detailed in the individual evaluation.
Criteria document
Number | CSA O437.0-93, Grade O2 |
Title | Standards on OSB and Waferboard |
Document | Standard |
Publisher | CSA Group |
Scope
These evaluations apply to a class of mat-formed panelboards made predominantly of wood wafers or strands of minimum and controlled length, controlled thickness, and variable or predetermined width which are bonded together with a waterproof and boilproof binder. The class comprises two types: waferboard, which consists wholly of randomly placed wafers or strands, and oriented strandboard (OSB), which contains layers of aligned wafers or strands.Material requirements
The evaluation holder must demonstrate that the product meets the following requirements (additional requirements may be imposed by the CCMC when necessary, and are detailed in the individual evaluation):
The standard prescribes minimum or maximum, physical and mechanical property levels for OSB and waferboard grade O-2, which is not end-use specific.
Property | Unit | Direction Footnote (2) | Grade O-2 |

Installation requirements
The CCMC requires that evaluation holders provide instructions for the installation of the product(s) that:
- do not contravene the National Building Code of Canada, or any provincial or territorial building codes; and
- meet the requirements of CCMC minimum documentation requirements.
Additionally, installation of cladding panels conforming to CSA O437.0-93, “OSB and Waferboard,” must be per the requirements below.

Manufacturing requirements
The CCMC requires that evaluation holders, at a minimum, demonstrate that the associated production process:
- is operated under a documented quality system; and
- meets the minimum requirements of the CCMC minimum documentation requirements.
Labelling requirements
The CCMC requires that evaluation holders ensure that product labels:
- reference the associated CCMC number or mark; and
- meet the requirements of CCMC minimum documentation requirements.
Additionally, as required by the standard, the OSB and waferboard must be marked with the following information:
- manufacturer’s name or logo;
- appropriate CSA designation;
- words “Exterior Bond” or “Ext Bond”;
- grade mark;
- direction of face alignment; and
- nominal thickness.
