[CCMC evaluation requirements] CAN/CGSB-51.32-M77
From: National Research Council Canada
This document provides a summary of the minimum requirements imposed by the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC) for all evaluations based on the below criteria document. Additional requirements may be imposed by the CCMC when necessary for a particular evaluation, and are detailed in the individual evaluation.
Criteria document
Number | CAN/CGSB-51.32-M77 |
Title | Sheathing, Membrane, Breather Type |
Document | Standard |
Publisher | Canadian General Standards Board |
Scope
These evaluations apply to wall sheathing membranes intended for use on the outside of heated buildings, under the external finish, as a secondary protective covering against the entry of wind and moisture. They are to provide moisture-resistant and draught-resistant barriers that do not impede the passage of water vapour and therefore minimize the condensation of such vapour.Material requirements
The evaluation holder must demonstrate that the product meets the following requirements (additional requirements may be imposed by the CCMC when necessary, and are detailed in the individual evaluation):
Test | Unit | Requirement |
---|---|---|
Visual inspection | n/a | Pass Footnote (1) |
Width tolerance | mm | −6 |
Pliability | n/a | no cracking |
Tensile strength | N/mm | ≥ 3.5 |
Water vapour permeance | ng/(Pa·s·m 2) | ≥ 170; ≤ 1400 |
Maximum water vapour permeance after accelerated aging | ng/(Pa·s·m 2) | 2 900 |
Labelling
Each roll must be identified to show the following information:
- the name of the product,
- the phrase “CAN/CGSB-51.32-M77,” and
- the associated CCMC number

Installation requirements
The CCMC requires that evaluation holders provide instructions for the installation of the product(s) that:
- do not contravene the National Building Code of Canada, or any provincial or territorial building codes; and
- meet the requirements of CCMC minimum documentation requirements.
Manufacturing requirements
The CCMC requires that evaluation holders, at a minimum, demonstrate that the associated production process:
- is operated under a documented quality system; and
- meets the minimum requirements of the CCMC minimum documentation requirements.
Labelling requirements
The CCMC requires that evaluation holders ensure that product labels:
- reference the associated CCMC number or mark; and
- meet the requirements of CCMC minimum documentation requirements.
Published CCMC evaluations
The following products have been evaluated to these requirements by the CCMC:
