Code compliance opinion
It is the opinion of the Canadian Construction Materials Centre that the evaluated products, when used as metal roofing in accordance with the conditions and limitations stated in this evaluation, comply with the following code:
National Building Code of Canada 2015
|ID||Code provision||Solution type|
|09-03-03-02-00-0-00||220.127.116.11. Galvanized Sheet Steel||Acceptable|
|09-26-01-02-00-0-00||18.104.22.168.(1) Roofs shall be protected with roofing, i ...||Acceptable|
|09-26-02-00-00-0-00||9.26.2. Roofing Materials||Alternative|
The above opinion is based on the evaluation by the CCMC of technical evidence provided by the evaluation holder, and is bound by the stated conditions and limitations. For the benefit of the user, a summary of the technical information that forms the basis of this evaluation has been included.
- DECRA® Shake XD
- DECRA® Shingle Plus
- DECRA® Shingle XD
- DECRA® Villa Tile
The products consist of modular metal roofing panels that are intended for use in residential and light commercial buildings falling under the scope of Part 9, Housing and Small Buildings, of Division B of the NBC 2015.
The products are sheet-metal roofing systems consisting of a basic panel that is pressure-formed from a 0.44-mm base metal thickness (BMT) sheet steel coated with 189 g/m2 of aluminum/zinc alloy on each side. The underside is further protected by a rust-resistant acrylic seal coat. The upper surface is covered with an acrylic base coat onto which mineral aggregates are spread and then finished with a spray-on acrylic resin overglaze.
The “DECRA® Shake XD” and “DECRA® Shingle XD” panels have a nominal measurement of 1 124 mm × 358.8 mm. The panels are stamped along their length to emulate shakes or shingles of varying widths. The butt edge is folded on itself to form a lower locking mechanism. The top edge is formed to make a clip to receive the lower edge of the panel above. The top edge also has a lip that is flat to the deck to receive the fasteners. The side edges have a factory edge with an overlap area to allow for fitting with adjacent panels. Panels are to be installed working left to right.
The “DECRA® Villa Tile” panel has a nominal measurement of 1 124 mm × 431.8 mm. The panels consist of five peaked and four pan areas of consistent dimensions that result in a curved tile appearance. The butt edge is curved in on itself to form a lower locking mechanism. The top edge is formed to make a clip to receive the lower edge of the panel above. The top edge also has a lip that has four tabs to receive the fasteners to fasten the panel directly to the deck. The side edges have an overlap to allow for fitting between adjacent panels. A 25 mm × 100 mm wood board is to be installed behind the first course of panels.
The “DECRA® Shingle Plus” panel has a nominal measurement of 1 321 mm × 419 mm. The panel profile consists of raised and lowered sections that form a series of rectangular shingle shapes. The butt edge is bent down 25.4 mm to provide an overlap. The top edge is formed to receive the fasteners and the lower edge of the panel above. The side edges allow for an overlap with adjacent panels. Panels are to be installed working right to left and are installed directly to the deck.
All systems include accessory strips for hip and ridge cap and barge cover.
Panels of the products and typical installation details are shown in the figure below. All products are installed without battens.

Conditions and limitations
The CCMC’s compliance opinion is bound by this product being used in accordance with the conditions and limitations set out below.
The CCMC's compliance opinion in Section 1 is bound by “DECRA® Shake XD,” “DECRA® Shingle XD, “DECRA® Villa Tile,” and “DECRA® Shingle Plus” being used in accordance with the conditions and limitations set out below.
- The panels must be installed on roofs having a minimum slope of 1 in 4.
- The product is limited to installations where no fire-resistance rating is required.
- The panels must be installed over solid sheathing in compliance with the requirements of Subsection 9.23.16., Roof Sheathing, of Division B of the NBC 2015.
- Flashings must be installed in compliance with the requirements of Subsection 9.26.4., Flashing at Intersections, of Division B of the NBC 2015.
- The panels must be installed with eave protection as indicated in Subsection 9.26.5., Eave Protection for Shingles and Shakes, of Division B of the NBC 2015.
- The panels must be installed with an underlay consisting of two layers of No. 15 organic felt or one layer of Type 30 organic felt in conjunction with the panels.
- Only fasteners and accessories supplied by the manufacturer may be used in conjunction with the panels. Use minimum #9 hex head fasteners specified by the manufacturer on the “DECRA® Shake XD” and “DECRA® Shingle XD,” minimum #8 screws specified by the manufacturer on the “DECRA® Villa Tile,” and #8 hex head fasteners specified by the manufacturer on the “DECRA® Shingle Plus.”
- Fastener spacing on shingles must be no more than 254 mm on centre (o.c.).
- The “DECRA® Shake XD,” “DECRA® Shingle XD,” “DECRA® Villa Tile,” and “DECRA® Shingle Plus” systems must be installed by licensed installers in strict conformance to the manufacturer’s current instructions.
- The roofing system is for use in locations where access is limited for maintenance or repair purposes. When access to the roof is needed, temporary walkways or roof-boards are recommended to avoid any permanent damage to the panels.
- The products or their packaging must be clearly identified with “CCMC 13551-R.”
