For the benefit of the user, a summary of the technical information that forms the basis of this evaluation has been included.

Product information

Product name

NextStone™

Product description

The product is an exterior cladding system consisting of high-density polyurethane plastic panels that are either injection- or compression-moulded. The panels are profiled along the top- and right-side edges such that the horizontal and vertical joints are shiplapped. The exterior face of the panels are embossed to provide a masonry-like (natural stone or brick) pattern. The panels are available in different colours simulating natural stone.

  Conditions and limitations

The CCMC’s compliance opinion is bound by this product being used in accordance with the conditions and limitations set out below.

  • The cladding system is intended to be used over concrete, masonry, and plywood or oriented strandboard (OSB) sheathing installed over wood framing.
  • The cladding must not be used as an exterior wall covering in buildings that are required to be of noncombustible construction, or in buildings in which the exterior cladding is required to be noncombustible, in accordance with the NBC 2015.
  • Fasteners for the cladding must be corrosion-resistant, compatible with the cladding material, and positioned to permit expansion and contraction due to temperature changes. Use 62 mm (2 1/2 in.) No. 8 corrosion-resistant screws spaced at 406 mm (16 in.) on centre (o.c.).
  • The 19-mm air space that is created by furring incorporated behind the “NextstoneTM” cladding must remain unobstructed to form a clear drainage layer behind the cladding, and meet the NBC provision for low-permeance material as per Sentence 9.25.5.2.(2), Position of Low Permeance Materials, of Division B of the NBC 2015.
  • The cladding must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s written installation guide (see NextStone™ Installation Guides).
  • The cladding must be installed with a suitable flashing that will drain water to the exterior and protect the exposed top edge of the cladding. Installed flashing must be in accordance with the requirements of Subsection 9.27.3.7, Flashing Materials of Division B of the NBC 2015.
  • At least one layer of sheathing membrane conforming to Article 9.23.17.1., Required Sheathing, of Division B of the NBC 2015, must be applied beneath the cladding.
  • A clearance of not less than 200 mm shall be provided between finished ground and cladding.
  • A clearance of not less than 50 mm shall be provided between a roof surface and cladding.
  • Conditions and limitations of this evaluation report shall supersede in case there are discrepancies between this evaluation report and the manufacturer’s written installation guide or manual.
  • This Evaluation Report is applicable only to products identified on the packaging with the phrase “CCMC 14450-R.”
