  • DECRA® Tile

Product description

The products are modular metal roofing panels intended for use in residential and light commercial buildings falling under the scope of Part 9, Housing and Small Buildings, of Division B of the NBC 2015.

The products consist of a basic panel that is pressure-formed from a 0.44-mm base metal thickness (BMT) sheet that is steel-coated with 189 g/m2 of aluminum/zinc alloy on each side. The underside is further protected by a rust-resistant acrylic seal coat. The upper surface is covered with an acrylic base coat onto which mineral aggregates are spread and then finished with a spray-on acrylic resin overglaze.

  • The “DECRA® Tile” panel has a nominal measurement of 1 321 mm × 419 mm. The longitudinal panel cross-section consists of seven modules, each of which is 178 mm wide with a curved profile and raised flutes along the sides. There is an additional raised flute section along the side edge of each panel to enable interlocking with the adjacent panel. The butt edge of the panel is bent down 25 mm and follows the pan contour of the panel below it, thus providing an overlap for weathertightness and fastening. The top edge of each panel is bent up 25 mm and then folded back horizontally by 25 mm so the back of the panel rests on the batten below.
  • The “DECRA® Shake” panel has a nominal measurement of 1 365 mm × 385 mm. The longitudinal panel cross-section consists of seven detailed “shake” impressions of varying widths. The butt edge of the panel is bent down by 25 mm while the top edge is bent up 25 mm and then folded back 65 mm so the back of the panel can be fastened on the batten below.
  • The “DECRA® Shingle Plus” panel has a nominal measurement of 1 321 mm × 419 mm. The panel profile consists of raised and lowered sections that form a series of rectangular shingle shapes. The butt edge is bent down 25.4 mm to provide an overlap. The top edge is formed to rest on the batten and to receive the fasteners and lower edge of the panel above it. The side edges allow for an overlap with adjacent panels. Panels are to be installed working in a right to left direction.

All systems include accessory strips for hip and ridge cap and barge cover.

Panels of the products and typical installation details are shown in Figures 1 and 2. All products are installed with battens.

  Conditions and limitations

The CCMC’s compliance opinion is bound by this product being used in accordance with the conditions and limitations set out below.

  • The panels must be installed on roofs having a minimum slope of 1 in 4.
  • The product is limited to installations where no fire-resistance rating is required.
  • The panels must be installed over solid sheathing in compliance with the requirements of Subsection 9.23.16., Roof Sheathing, of Division B of the NBC 2015.
  • Flashing must be installed in compliance with the requirements of Subsection 9.26.4., Flashing at Intersections, of Division B of the NBC 2015.
  • The panels must be installed with eave protection as indicated in Subsection 9.26.5., Eave Protection for Shingles and Shakes, of Division B of the NBC 2015.
  • The panels must be installed with an underlay consisting of two layers of No. 15 organic felt or one layer of Type 30 organic felt in conjunction with the panels.
  • Only fasteners and accessories supplied by the manufacturer may be used in conjunction with the panels. Use #9 hex head fasteners specified by the manufacturer on the “DECRA® Tile and Shake,” and use #8 hex head fasteners specified by the manufacturer on the “DECRA® Shingle Plus.”
  • Fastener spacing on shingles must be no more than 254 mm on centre (o.c.).
  • The “DECRA® Tile/DECRA® Shake/ DECRA® Shingle Plus” systems must be installed by licensed installers in strict conformance to the manufacturer’s current instructions.
  • The roofing systems are for use in locations where access is limited for maintenance or repair purposes. When access to the roof is needed, temporary walkways or roof-boards are recommended to avoid any permanent damage to the panels.
  • The products or their packaging must be clearly identified with “CCMC 10241-R.”
